about

Unreleased Goa Records welcomes 2023 with "Parallel Universe", a smashing Goa Trance album from talented Swedish project dE-fECT. Rickard Nilsson began producing music in 1995, making hardcore and chip music. It all started when he attended a demo party, which hosted a contest for music made with programs and modules. The process of creating his own music, transforming ideas in his head to actual sounds, led to a plethora of positive feelings, a driving force for Rickard, who dedicated himself to music production. In 1998, he played around with more dance music eventually evolving to Goa and Psytrance. Influenced by the high-tempo works of Astral Projection, GMS, Psysex, Koxbox, Hallucinogen, and Electric Universe, he tailored his distinct hard, melodic, and energetic style, without many breaks, always pushing forward, never slowing down, and still quite playful.

The name "dE-fECT" derives from "The Effect", but as Rickard considered his music some kind of "defect" at start, he gave the name a twist and stuck with it. He used the name dE-fECT when he played, however there were also other aliases such as "Rapid Evolution", "Soulsweeper", "SundaySyndrome", and "RickardN". His first tracks were produced with FastTracker2, before upgrading to Cubase and midi-keyboard/VST, and published on the legendary Trax In Space platform where they got the attention of Emil Hansson (Psychedelic Hamster) and Daniel Sunebring (Govinda), two other young Swedish producers who had formed "Goaarchive" in late December 1999 and invited him to join in. Rickard contributed to this collective with tracks regularly published on their MP3.com page; some of these were featured on the Goaarchive DAM CD album "Psychedelic Pleasures" in 2000.

In 2001, Rickard was among the finalists of the first psynews.org contest with two amazing tracks: "Germs, Germs, Psychedelic Germs" and "Bouncing Shrooms and Giggleing Gnomes". The latter was released on the "Psychedelic Sparks" CD compilation by Inpsyde Media. Unreleased Goa Records is happy to reissue here in full quality and in remastered form these two tracks, along with nine previously unreleased pieces selected from the artist’s extensive repertoire. All tracks were produced between 2001 and 2003, and played live during Swedish indoor and forest events, often around Gothenburg, such as "Euphoria", "Mystiska hålet I marken" (The Mystery Hole in the Ground), "Wizardry of the Woods", "Under the Bridge" party in Malmö, and many more. Get prepared for a fast and furious psychedelic space-trip to the "Parallel Universe"!

More unpublished material by dE-fECT is expected from Unreleased Goa Records in the future.
